Podcast anyone?

Sunday, August 21st, 2005

ONTHERAIL has been known for some time for the caustic wit and insider bent of it’s news and stories, and the site’s forums are known for the no-holds barred posts from people in the trenches of the business. Now the crew at Tatu have pitched in and the site offers Podcasts of stories, news and commentary from the site founders as well as users who have volunteered their efforts to make these podcasts truly the voice of the restaurant biz.

Not far down the road the team will be adding multi-media podcasts as well, offering up an eclectic mix of images, humor and who knows what else!
Here’s a link to the PodCast blog. Go ahead, subscribe. We know you want to.

Do you go Full Tilt?

Sunday, August 14th, 2005

Does your phone go Full Tilt? No?
Well then my friend you should visit our most recent release. Full Tilt Mobile allows users of those swanky smart phones to download a range of cartoons for viewing on the screen.

This was such a fun site to do. Getting to work with so many artists and help them realize their vision, working with the software builders to find a way to demo the product, and learning all about the exciting world of mobile delivery.

Look for a lot more from Tatu in this area in the near future!

We’ve moved hosting over the years a lot of times and about 6 months ago we hooked up at
Lunar Pages. The service is excellent, the rate s very reasonable and the built in packages from their control panel include:

  • Webmail
  • Multiple FTP accounts, (including anonymous)
  • Backup you can run on your own and download or upload a dbase, or directory
  • Stats for web usage, extensive error message tracking and FTP stats
  • Shopping Carts
  • CGI/PHP
  • Chatrooms
  • Hotlink Protection
  • (prevents other websites from directly linking to files on your website and hi-jacking your work and bandwidth)

They also offer a slew of installable scripts for:

  • Blogs
  • Content Management
  • Customer Relationship
  • Discussion Boards
  • E-Commerce
  • Guestbooks
  • Image Galleries
  • Mailing Lists

Polls and Surveys

  • Project Management
  • Wiki
  • PhpWiki
  • Spam Assasin

To top it all off they will even move your current site for you.

What more can you ask for?
Oh yeah. Pricing.
The Shuttle version gives you 3000MB of storage and 40GB or data transfer.
The voyager plan ups that to 4000MB of storage and 80GB of traffic.

What are you waiting for? Check out Lunar Pages today and tell ‘em we said hullo!

Yahoo goes after AdSense

Saturday, August 6th, 2005

According to Jim Hedger of Webpronews.com, it looks like Yahoo is trying to cash in on Googles popular AdSense program.
This is the program that allows a website to put google ads on their own site through a simple feed and the site gets a % of the click through.
We’ve recommended this to several clients and are happy to say that quite often it does pretty well if the site is focused on a particular niche. It will be very interesting to see how this space develops.

Creative Commons

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005

There are quite a few sites where your creative director can download some copyright free images these days
but most of them rely on travel pics or goofy (and generally unprofessional ) shots of the office staff.

Now though there is a place for those of us who are on a tight budget but need quality work, or have quality work and need to find a market for it.

Check out Creative Commons.

There are places where you can publish your videos and get them seen by a broad audience.

As a marketing person who often needs to find images or audio that we can post for client approval before we buy, is site is a gold mine. We can set up the comps and get approval, and then know exactly what the rights are for each piece and what it’s going to cost us. Even better, a lot of the work is high quality and has a different look to it than those disks you buy art Office Cheapo.

The site links to major repositories as well, like the Public Library of Science, whose goal is to “a world in which the many thousands of scientific journals . . . are placed in an electronic library open to the public.”

And it links to the Media Rights website, which helps people find the research videos for their media campaigns, especially in human rights, as well as help “adult and youth filmmakers reach audiences, educators and librarians bring films into their curricula and nonprofits and activists integrate media into their campaigns.”
what could be a more awesome resource?
