Do you know Pandora?
Monday, February 20th, 2006Do you know Pandora?
If you’re a music fan, you’re going to be thrilled. Pandora hooks into the Music Genome Project, and offers you the ability to build your own streaming radio station with artists that reflect your own tastes in music. Commercial free. Annoying DJ free. Oh, and it’s free. (They plan to have ads but we haven’t seen many so far, and you can get rid if them with a teensy subscription fee).
How can you use it? You can post a search box on your website to search an artist or title that will take a user directly to a “radio station” featuring that music. Or add an rss feed to your station or your pals on your website.
Use standard keyboard shortcuts to manage volume, rate music and navigate your playlist.
Soon Pandora will be available on Slim Devices Squeezebox so you can deliver your favorite tunes directly to your stereo and manage your playlist with a remote.
It’s not all without an edge of commerce. You can buy albums on Amazon and purchase songs through iTunes too. Not all the songs in the world are there but there are a lot of artists involved and if you are a bit off the mainstream track you’re more likely to find some tunes of interest that you never even heard of. Discovery is good. So? What are you waiting for? Oh yeah, the URL.
