Do you remember Chernobyl? Most of us have forgotten it, or think that it’s all been cleaned up now. Not exactly. The disaster itself may have been swept under the rug in the public conscience, but it didn’t go away.

Photographer Paul Fusco’s deeply disturbing photographs of the children who are still suffering, and will suffer for the rest of their lives show us both the horrors of nuclear disaster and the indomitable spirit of children.
