New Video Player

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Speaking of video in Flash, have you seen our nifty new vid player on the Hess Collection website? It’s pretty cool. The videos load dynamically from an XML script, so it’s easy to update, it uses bandwidth profiling to deliver the right size for your bandwidth and although in this instance it is showing progressive video, the player can stream too if you’ve got a streaming server. Check it out. and stay tuned for the MP3 player version for the audio only files.

Flash radio?

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Every time somebody tells me that Flash is just an animation tool, doesn’t
index in the search engines and nobody has it on their machine I have to wonder
what cave they’ve been living in. It’s true, for some Flash is not the right
method of delivery. Some Flash websites ARE all about what the designer can do
with it rather than useability. At Tatu Digital we try to fit the client needs
with the right tool, whatever that is. Many of our clients are looking for
strong visuals, dynamic content and interactivity, so for many Flash is the
right answer.

Flash is being used by innovators in many realms of the web. It can be a
database interface that is flexible and user friendly.

Let’s just look at how people are using Flash to find music online. Some of the
best interfaces are Flash front ends.

Tell it the mood you’re in, and target="_blank">Musicovery will find the tunes for you. I said calm and
positive and I’m listening to Curtis Mayfield. Click the icon under his name
and I can buy the music from Itunes or Amazon.

Want to get more specific? Learn new music in the genres you like?

Go to name="pandora, discover new music online" title="pandora, discover new music
online" target="_blank">Pandora
and enter the name of an artist. Pandora
will search the Music Genome project and come back with artists that fit that
profile.

Fine Tune works in a
similar way. Pick an artist from the list and they’ll create your playlist. You
can even use the player on your blog or website.

Oh, and if you think Flash doesn’t get indexed by search engines, read this.
As for the “nobody has the plug in” excuse, read this.
